Champions League manager says Man Utd were wronged by latest VAR decision

Brendan Rodgers has shared his opinion on Marcus Rashford’s sending-off for Manchester United against Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford was awarded a straight red on Wednesday for a foul which looked completely accidental. Looking to plant his leg and protect the ball, Rashford was already in motion when the Copenhagen defender’s leg arrived on the scene.

The foul if intentional was a sending-off, but it was a complete accident, and the referee had a clear view in real time only for VAR to be sent to the screen where he then made the decision to send Rashford off.

The decision led to outrage from those around the club who couldn’t see a justifiable reason why a red card was given.

The 26-year-old England international has however received some support from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers who was appalled with the decision.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, via Celtic club media, Rodgers said that he didn’t think it was a red.

“I think we are now starting to see it a bit more. I was always cautious to see how the technology worked. The technology is fine but the implementation of that is in doubt.

“The more I see it, I watched the game after and I saw Marcus Rashford being sent off for Manchester United which was never a sending-off.

“When he goes to plant his foot, the young guy’s foot wasn’t there initially and then it’s there. He gets sent off and that changes the course of the game.”

Erik ten Hag calls for action to improve refereeing

Adding to this, after yet another week plagued with poor decisions against United, Erik ten Hag has spoken out, asking for improvements via club media.

“I think as a manager, collectively we have to talk with the PGMOL and to improve the football in togetherness, to find solutions in togetherness and don’t debate it in public.”

A very respectful way of calling out the poor decisions against his club in comparison with how other managers have done so in recent weeks.
